How to create a file share in Windows 2012

  If you want to setup a file share in Window 2012 you can follow the below mentioned steps. In Windows 2012(It was there in Windows 2008 also) when you want to create the file share, you can see there are five difference profiles. you can see a list of the profiles below, along with a short description of each.

Profile	Description
SMB Share - Quick	This basic profile represents the fastest way to create an SMB file share, typically used to share files with Windows-based computers. Suitable for general file sharing Advanced options can be configured later by using the Properties dialog
SMB Share - Advanced	This advanced profile offers additional options to configure a SMB file share. Set the folder owners for access-denied assistance Configure default classification of data in the folder for management and access policies Enable quotas
SMB Share - Applications	This profile creates an SMB file share with settings appropriate for Hyper-V, certain databases, and other server applications.
NFS Share - Quick	This basic profile represents the fastest way to create a NFS file share, typically used to share files with UNIX-based computers. Suitable for general file sharing Advanced options can be configured later by using the Properties dialog
NFS Share - Advanced	This advanced profile offers additional options to configure a NFS file share. Set the folder owners for access-denied assistance Configure default classification of data in the folder for management and access policies Enable quotas

First you have to enable the File and Storage Service Role from the Add Roles and Features wizard. after that you can se below mentioned window and just select “Create file share”

Form new share window you have to select the correct profile. once you select, Click Next to proceed.

Select the Correct file Share location. You can choose to share a whole drive, if you want.

Give a folder name. I’ve named my share as NSLFPS.Then below, you can see the full share name/network path.

There are some other additional settings that you can enable. Access-based enumeration used to be an add on for Windows. It allows users to see just the files and folders to which they have been granted access and not even be able to see that other items exist. You can also choose to allow the shared folder to be cached on other systems using BranchCache. Finally, you’re able to encrypt remote access to the newly shared resource.

Provide required Permission for the Share folder.

Review your selections and click the Create button when you’re ready to create the share.

Now you have successfully shared a folder in Windows Server 2012.

How to set up a Mirrored Array in Windows 2012

Even with the best backup solution, a hard drive crashes, you’ll lose a few hours of work. By enabling drive mirroring in Windows 2012, you’ll always have an up-to-date copy of your data.
This is a software implementation of RAID 1 in Windows , which means that two or more disks are holding the exact same data. The files are constantly kept in sync, so that if one of the disks fails, you won’t lose any data.
You will need at least one empty disk to set up disk mirroring. I will show you how to mirror an existing disk without losing any data on the mirrored drive, In my case I'm using two 2TB Seagate Hard Drivers.  To start this,
1. From the tools menu you can select Computer Management.

2. Then you can select Disk Management from the next window and then you can see Disk1 and Disk 2 are in Unallocated state.

3.Just right click on the Disk1 and then you can select New mirrored Volume from the dropdown window.

4. Click Next to continue

5. Click on the drives you want to hold the mirrored data and click Add. Note that you can add any number of drives. Click Next.

6. Once you select the disk, click add and Next button to go to next step.

7. Assign it a drive letter, and then click Next.

8. Now you’re limited to using the NTFS file format for mirrored drives, so enter a volume label, then select Perform quick format. enable compression if you want, and then click Next.

9. Then click Finish to start formatting the drives.

10. You will be warned that the new drives will be converted to dynamic disks. Click Yes

11. we are done with the configuration. now you  can see the mirrored driver as a new Volume (E:) and in the Disk management console you  can see those to mirrored drivers in red color.

Fix: Windows 8 Enable Feature DotNET 3.5 Error 0x800F0906

In Windows 8 we can enable “NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0) “ and “NET Framework 4.5” as shown below.

But once we click Ok and run the wizard, it will try to install .Net 3.5 and  prompt an error saying that, 

Windows couldn’t complete the requested changes. Windows couldn’t connect to the Internet to download necessary files. Make sure you are connected to the Internet, and press “Retry” to try again. Error code: 0x800F0906

This means using this wizard we cant install .Net 3.5 . Therefore to fix this issue, follow the steps listed below.
  1.  Insert the Windows 8 DVD in to CD ROM or mount the Installation ISO file. (If you have Win 8 ISO in you PC, you can simply right click on that ISO and select mount)
  2.  Use the CMD in run as Administrator
  3.  After that type the following command:
dism /online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFX3 /All /Source:D:\Sources\SxS /LimitAccess

Now your Windows Feature of .NET Framework 3.5  is enabled. To verify go in to Windows Features
 
Congratulations ..   now you have .net 3.5 enabled on your Windows 8 PC.
 
Make sure to give correct Windows 8 Installation Media Drive Letter in above command. if not you will get below mentioned error.

CISCO VPN Error 442 in Windows 8

How to fix Cisco VPN Client error 442 on Windows 8.

If you get below mentioned error massage when you try to connect from Windows 8 computer,

You have to follow these steps to fix that issue.

1..   Go in to Run by pressing  Windows+R   and type Regedit,

2.You will get this window and find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\CVirtA

3.  Then select the Display name to modify, and remove the characters from the Value data. (there will be something like “@oem13.inf,%CVirtA_Desc%;Cisco Systems VPN Adapter for 64-bit Windows” )

•      For x86 PC, change the value data from something like"@oem8.inf,%CVirtA_Desc%;Cisco Systems VPN Adapter” to "Cisco Systems VPN Adapter”

•  For x64 PC, change the value data from something like "@oem8.inf,%CVirtA_Desc%;Cisco Systems VPN Adapter for 64-bit Windows” to "Cisco Systems VPN Adapter for 64-bit Windows”

Now you can connect to your CISCO VPN. No need to restart your PC 

Windows 8 - How to install a Domain Controller

I’m try to promote a Server as a Domain Controller and this is the Steps if you want to follow it

As usually I run dcprmo Start > Run > “Dcpromo”

Mmmm… It’s giving me this massage and saying that Domain Service installation wizard was relocated under Server Manager.

Then go in to Server Manager and select Add rolls and features

Then it will prompt for Installation Type. Choose whether to install Role-based or Feature-based Installation or Scenario-based Installation and click next.

In the Select Destination Server window Select the correct server under Server Pool.

Then inside the Server roles Select the AD DS and after that If you wnt you can select the Features that you want.

You can check the summary and click install

Once this finished you have to go in to Server manager and run the pending task.

After that Deployment Configuration window will prompt. Select the Deployment Option (In my case I’m adding a new forest) and give a root domain name also.

Type a DSRM password.

Run the Prerequisites check and click install.

Reboot the Server and now you can see Active Directory domain Services is in your Dashboard.
